PowerPoint 2000: Advanced Windows 2000 Overview In the previous PowerPoint documents we discussed several ways of creating and customizing presentations.  In this document, we will discuss advanced design techniques to create custom, flexible presentations.  We will learn how to create custom shows and agenda and summary slides, how to create hyperlinks to presentation slides and to web pages and discuss custom animation techniques in greater detail.  Because these are advanced features, most of the sections in this document can be used independently of the others. Getting From Here to There There are several tools in PowerPoint that allow you to order and navigate your presentation with greater ease. Once you have created a presentation, you have the ability to customize it to your audience's needs without having to reinvent the wheel.  You may find the following tools useful for navigation. Creating Custom Shows Custom shows in PowerPoint allow you to make a presentation within a presentation.  Say, for example, that you will be giving a presentation to 2 different groups on new services that your department can provide.  The content at the beginning of the presentation needs to be the same for both groups, but because of the different services each group uses, you need to be able to branch off into customized content for each group.  Rather than creating a separate presentation for each group, or making your audience sit through content that does not pertain to them, you can create a custom show inside one presentation.  Once you group the slides and give them a name, you can jump to these slides during your presentation.  This action will be explained in detail in the Agenda Slide section of this document. To create a custom slide show click on Custom Shows from the Slide Show menu.  Choose the New button to get to the Define Custom Show dialog box.  In the Slides In Menu dialog box, begin selecting the slides you want to include in the custom show and then click the Add button.  To select more than one slide at a time, hold down the control key as you select slides.  Once you have chosen the slides you want to include in your custom show, you can use the arrow keys on the right to reorder them if you need to.  Finally, give your custom show a name by typing it in the Slide Show Name box and click OK. Action Settings The Action Settings command allows you to create a hyperlink in your presentation to another slide in your presentation, a different presentation, another program or to an address on the World Wide Web.  These settings must be used in conjunction with an object in your presentation in order for them to work.  The next few sections of this document explain some of the objects you can use with Action Settings. Click on Action Settings from the Slide Show Menu to access the Action Settings window.  You will see two tabs at the top.  The first is Mouse Click, and the second is Mouse Over.  The hyperlink will be activated in your presentation based on the tab you choose.  Mouse Click means that you must physically click on the hyperlink in order to execute it.  The Mouse Over option means that you only need to rest your pointer on the hyperlink, without clicking, to execute it.  Be careful when choosing the Mouse Over option.  If you accidentally rest your pointer on a hyperlink during your presentation you could go to that link without
